Chionanthus retusus






El Chionanthus retusus és un arbre de flors pertanyent al gènere Chionanthus nadiu de l'est d'Àsia, al centre i est de la Xina, Corea, i el Japó.
És un arbre de mida petita a mitjà que arriba als 20 metres d'alçada amb l'escorça fissurada. Les fulles són de 3-12 cm de longitud i 2-6,5 cm d'ample, simple ovat a oblongo-líptic amb borrissol i un pecíol de 5-20 mm de longitud. Les flors són de color blanc i es produeixen en panícules de 3-12 cm de llarg. El fruit és una drupa de color blau-negrós de 1-1,5 cm de llarg i 0,6-1 cm de diàmetre.
Es cultiva a Europa i Amèrica del Nord com a planta ornamental, valorada pels seus caps florals de color blanc.

Chionanthus retusus (Chinese Fringetree) is a species of Chionanthus native to eastern Asia, in eastern and central China, Korea, and Japan.
It is a deciduous small to medium-sized tree growing to 20 m in height, with thick, fissured bark. The leaves are 3–12 cm long and 2–6.5 cm broad, simple ovate to oblong-elliptic, with a hairy, 0.5–2 cm long petiole. The flowers are white, produced in panicles 3–12 cm long. The fruit is a blue-black drupe 1–1.5 cm long and 0.6–1 cm diameter.
It is cultivated in Europe and North America as an ornamental tree, valued for its feathery white flowerheads.
